3 Best Brunch Spots in Downtown San Diego

The best way to take the sting out of the end of the weekend is to indulge in a fabulous Sunday brunch. Whether you want to indulge in an all-you-can-eat buffet, or get a single entree and a couple of craft beers, downtown San Diego’s restaurants have plenty of reasons for you to crawl out of bed on Sunday morning.

Tom Ham’s Lighthouse

Tom Ham's Lighthouse Harbor Island San Diego

At the very tip of Harbor Island, Tom Ham’s Lighthouse sits surrounded by water on three sides. This coveted location means that diners get gorgeous views of the water from almost every table. The classic, private-club feel of the restaurant is the perfect setting for a relaxing Sunday brunch, and locals know it, so reservations are recommended. From 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Sunday, $30.00 will get you an all-access pass to champagne mimosas, a carving station, a custom omelet station, a seafood bar, and overabundance of sweet desserts.

Quality Social

Locally sourced and housemade are the two trends that shape the menu at Quality Social, a favorite nightspot of the East Village loft crowd. The selection of comfort foods and kid classics, like mac n’ cheese and hot dogs are reinvented for adult palates using quality ingredients. The irreverent “bar with food” opens for brunch at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays, and in addition to the hot dogs, burgers, salads from their regular menu, diners are offered a nice variety of breakfast classics including brioche French toast, chilaquiles verde, steak and eggs, and biscuits & gravy. The brunch menu is a la carte at Quality Social, so you stand a better chance of avoiding the food coma that follows a buffet-style brunch.

House of Blues

The rock n roll heart of the Gaslamp District is the House of Blues, but on Sunday, the restaurant gets in touch with its spiritual side for the Gospel Brunch.  Your $40.00 all-inclusive ticket gets you live gospel music and a Southern Comfort food buffet. You will need a nap after filling up on Chicken Fried Chicken, Waffles, Jambalaya, Maple Glazed Ham, and Key Lime Pie, while dancing and clapping along to the lively music. It is a good idea to call ahead for reservations.  Seatings are available from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
